President David J. Canepa is a dedicated fourth-generation San Mateo County resident, deeply rooted in the community he serves. Raised in Pacifica and now residing in Daly City with his wife Ana and their young son David Piero, Canepa has built a life defined by service and advocacy. A former Daly City mayor, he currently serves as President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in his third term. His leadership reflects a passionate commitment to fairness, equity and meeting the needs of the diverse communities he serves.
As a leader, Canepa prioritizes bold, forward-thinking initiatives to tackle the region’s most pressing challenges. His work focuses on improving public transportation, addressing the chronic housing shortage, promoting public health and safety and prioritizing investments for children, families and older adults.
Canepa serves on several regional boards and commissions including the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, SamTrans, the San Mateo Medical Center, the San Mateo Health Commission, the Behavioral Health Commission and the Commission on Aging among others.
Throughout his career in public service, Canepa has dedicated himself to five pillars of leadership: housing justice and affordability, public health and wellness for all, combating loneliness, climate resilience and environmental stewardship and economic mobility and empowerment.
