Joseph Presti, MD, is a urologist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of urologic cancers. He is the surgical lead for urologic oncology at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California (KPNC). He serves as the co-clinical lead for the National Kaiser Permanente Prostate Cancer Screening Guideline Team and is a co-lead for the Genitourinary Cancer Program in the National Kaiser Permanente Excellence in Cancer Care Program.

Dr. Presti attended University of California, Irvine, for medical school and completed his residency in urology at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He joined the UCSF faculty in 1992 and remained there until 2000. He was then recruited to Stanford University as the director of Urologic Oncology in 2000 and remained there until joining Kaiser Permanente in 2012.

Dr. Presti’s research interests have focused on refining screening and detection strategies for prostate cancer. He has developed and now implemented a prostate cancer risk calculator used by urologists in KPNC in men with elevated PSA levels.
